In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. The institution is made up of 21 colleges spread across three main locations in Hilla. The central university campus is in the medical colleges complex in the center of Hilla -Al-Iskan.

حققت جامعة بابل إنجازاً أكاديمياً جديداً بتصدرها الجامعات العراقية في التصنيف الكوري (The WURI) The World University Rankings for Innovation المتخصص في مجال الإبداع والابتكار لهذا العام WURI2026 الخاص بالجامعات الأكثر ابتكاراً، وكذلك حصولها على المرتبة (185) عالمياً، في خطوة تعكس التقدم النوعي الذي تشهده الجامعة في مجالات الابتكار والتعليم والبحث العلمي وخدمة المجتمع. وأكد رئيس الجامعة الأستاذ الدكتور أمين الياسري أن هذا الإنجاز يمثل ثمرةً للجهود المؤسسية المتواصلة التي تبذلها ملاكات الجامعة في تطوير بيئتها الأكاديمية والعلمية، وتعزيز حضورها في التصنيفات العالمية الرصينة، مشيراً إلى أن جامعة بابل ماضية في ترسيخ ثقافة الابتكار وتحويل المعرفة إلى مشاريع ومبادرات تسهم في خدمة المجتمع والتنمية المستدامة. وأضاف الياسري أن تصدر الجامعة على مستوى العراق في تصنيف WURI يعكس حجم العمل الجماعي والتكامل بين الكليات والمراكز البحثية والملاكات التدريسية والإدارية، مؤكداً أن الجامعة وضعت ضمن أولوياتها الانفتاح على التجارب العالمية الحديثة وتطوير البرامج التعليمية بما ينسجم مع متطلبات العصر والتحول الرقمي. من جانبه أكد مساعد رئيس الجامعة للشؤون العلمية الأستاذ الدكتور محمد منصور الخفاجي أن هذا التصنيف يُعد WURI من التصنيفات العالمية المتخصصة بقياس مدى إسهام الجامعات في الابتكار والتأثير المجتمعي وجودة البرامج التعليمية التطبيقية، فضلاً عن قدراتها في ربط التعليم باحتياجات التنمية وسوق العمل. تقديراً لهذا الإنجاز، أثنى رئيس الجامعة على الجهود الكبيرة التي بذلتها دائرة المساعد العلمي متمثلةً بالأستاذ الدكتور محمد منصور الخفاجي، والفريق العامل الذي أسهم بروحٍ مهنية عالية وعملٍ دؤوب في تحقيق هذا التقدم النوعي، مؤكداً أن هذا الإنجاز يعكس المكانة العلمية المتنامية لجامعة بابل وقدرتها على المنافسة في المحافل الدولية، فضلاً عن حرصها المستمر على ترسيخ بيئة الابتكار والتميّز الأكاديمي بما ينسجم مع أهداف التنمية والتطوير المؤسسي. التصنيف على الرابط التالي: https://www.wuri.world/.../8e5131... قسم الإعلام والاتصال الحكومي
