In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

نشر فريق بحثي من كلية طب الأسنان بجامعة بابل بحثاً علمياً مشتركاً في العدد الأخير من "مجلة طب بابل"، وهي إحدى المجلات المحلية الرصينة التي تستقطب الباحثين من داخل العراق وخارجه. تألف الفريق من نخبة أكاديمية ضمن برنامج الدراسات العليا، وهم الأستاذ الدكتورة سهى عبد الحسين هندي (عميد كلية طب الأسنان - جامعة بابل).و الأستاذ الدكتور بهاء حمدي العميدي (التدريسي في فرع الأحياء المجهرية).و الباحث أحمد نبيل الحبوبي (طالب دراسات عليا). تناول البحث دراسة تشخيصية لثلاثة أنواع من البكتيريا المسببة لمرض "التهاب حول التاج" (Pericoronitis) لضرس العقل في الفك السفلي. من أبرز نقاط الدراسة طبيعة الالتهاب الذي يصيب الأنسجة الرخوة المحيطة بضرس العقل نتيجة تجمع بقايا الطعام، مما يخلق بيئة خصبة لنمو بكتيريا مسببة لاتهابات مزمنة. وأسباب الإصابة: حيث ركز البحث على دور إهمال نظافة الفم والأسنان بعد الوجبات في تفاقم هذه الحالة. وقد اعتمد الباحثون على تقنية تفاعل البوليمراز المتسلسل (PCR) لتشخيص الأنواع البكتيرية جينياً. وتعد هذه التقنية من الوسائل الحديثة والمتقدمة التي تضمن دقة عالية في تحديد المسببات المرضية من خلال دراسة الجينات الوراثية للبكتيريا. احمد ابراهيم
