In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. تحت رعاية الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل ياسر، رئيس جامعة بابل المحترم، وإشراف الأستاذة الدكتورة سهى عبد الحسين هندي، عميد كلية طب الأسنان المحترمة، نظمت وحدة حقوق الإنسان في الكلية ندوة علمية متخصصة تبحث في الآليات الفعالة لمواجهة التحديات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية. حملت الندوة عنوان "التعليم والعدالة الاجتماعية كمدخلين لمكافحة الفقر"، وحاضر فيها المدرس الدكتور اسراء ناظم حبيب مسؤول الوحدة حيث سلطت الضوء على العلاقة الوثيقة بين توفير فرص التعليم الجيد وتطبيق مبادئ العدالة في توزيع الموارد والفرص كأدوات أساسية لتقليص معدلات الفقر في المجتمع. تم تنظيم الندوة بالتعاون المشترك بين وحدة حقوق الإنسان ووحدة التعليم المستمر وشعبة الإعلام وشعبة الأنشطة الطلابية تناولت المحاور المتعلقة بكيفية تحويل التعليم إلى قوة دافعة للتنمية الاقتصادية وتأمين مستقبل أفضل للأفراد والأسر المحرومة. كذلك سلطت الضوء على الفقر التعليمي من كافة جوانبه حيث تناولت العدالة الاجتماعية في توزيع الفرص بشكل عادل وأسباب الفقر والتوعية المجتمعية من خلال تعزيز المبادرات الطلابية والمشاريع الريادية للطلبة من خلال التمكين الاقتصادي ودعم المشاريع الصغيرة وايضاً قد أكدت على التكافل الاجتماعي من خلال التطوع ومبادرات مجتمعية وايضا أكدت على ان الرقمنة تحد من الفقر من خلال العمل عبر الإنترنت وتوفير التعليم الإلكتروني. ويأتي هذا النشاط ضمن جهود كلية طب الأسنان في جامعة بابل لتعزيز الوعي بالقضايا المجتمعية والوطنية التي تتجاوز التخصصات الأكاديمية التقليدية. احمد ابراهيم
