In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

شارك الأستاذ الدكتور بهاء حمدي العميدي التدريسي في فرع الأحياء المجهرية في كلية طب الأسنان جامعة بابل في الورشة الإلكترونية التي أقامتها الجمعية العراقية للسلامة البيولوجية بعنوان (الإشعاع النووي وطرق الوقاية منه). حيث تم التعريف بمصادر الإشعاع النووي وتطبيقاته في حياتنا اليومية ومنها في تحديد العديد من حالات المرضية عند مراجعتنا إلى المستشفيات والعيادات الطبية وكذلك تم التأكيد على ضرورة تجنب الإشعاع بشكل متكرر وذكر المحاضر إن جميع الغرف الخاصة بوحدات الأشعة تحاط بجدران من الرصاص ليتجنب وصول الإشعاع إلى خارج غرف المخصصة لأخذ الصور الشعاعية نتيجة أخذ الأشعة للمرضى كما ذكر إن هناك العديد من الاستخدامات الطبية في معالجه عدد من الأورام باستخدام النظائر ذات الاستخدام الطبي في مراكز العلاج بعد ذلك تم التطرق إلى ضرورة اخذ الحيطة والحذر في حاله وجود أي خلل في المفاعلات النووية المستخدمة للأغراض السلمية لان أضرارها كارثية وقد تحدث طفرات وراثيه على المدى البعيد وتطرق إلى حادثه المفاعل النووي في روسيا تشيرنوبل المعرف والذي حدث تسرب إشعاعي بسبب حدوث ضرر في احد أقسام المفاعل النووي والمخصص للأغراض السلمية. احمد إبراهيم
