In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

بتوجيه من السيدة عميد كلية طب الأسنان الأستاذ الدكتورة سهى عبد الحسين هندي المحترمة شاركت كلية طب الأسنان جامعة بابل في مؤتمر بابل الدولي الأول لمواجهة التطرف الفكري والإرهاب الذي احتضنته جامعة بابل وقد مثل الكلية المدرس المساعد زينب عبد خلف مسؤول الشعبة القانونية في الكلية حيث تم نشر بحثين من قبلها عنوان البحث الأول الإرهاب المعلوماتي والبحث الثاني الخداع والترغيب في ارتكاب جريمة الإتجار بالبشر. وقد شارك في المؤتمر جامعة المستقبل، والحلة الجامعة، برعاية معالي وزير التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي الدكتور نعيم العبودي، للفترة من 14 ـ 15 نيسان الحالي تحت شعار (الحوار نحو السلم المستدام). حيث عقد المؤتمر بإشراف مباشر من قبل رئيس جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور امين عجيل الياسري، ورئيس جامعة المستقبل الأستاذ الدكتور حسن شاكر مجدي، ورئيس جامعة الحلة الأستاذ عقيل السعدي. بحضور المساعد العلمي الأستاذ الدكتور محمد منصور الخفاجي، والمساعد الإداري الأستاذ الدكتور ميثاق الجبوري، وعدد من عمداء الكليات وأساتذتها والباحثين. هدف المؤتمر إلى تحليل التطورات العالمية من خلال دراسة تأثير التحولات السياسية على أنماط التطرف والعنف والإرهاب ومشاركة التجارب الناجحة بعرض ومشاركة الاستراتيجيات الفعالة من مختلف الدول في مواجهة التطرف وتعزيز التعاون الدولي بإنشاء شبكة من التعاون بين الدول لمواجهة التحديات المشتركة المتعلقة بالإرهاب وتوعية المجتمع برفع مستوى الوعي بين فئات المجتمع حول مخاطر التطرف وسبل التصدي له، وإعداد توصيات لصانعي القرار لتطوير سياسات فعّالة لمواجهة التطرف والعنف وتفعيل دور الشباب وتشجيع مشاركتهم في جهود السلام والمصالحة وتعزيز الفكر المعتدل، فضلا عن استكشاف الحلول التكنولوجية بدراسة دور التكنولوجيا في مكافحة التطرف وتعزيز الأمن، وتعزيز البحث والدراسات من خلال تشجيع الأبحاث والدراسات حول الظواهر الإرهابية وتأثيرها على المجتمعات . كما تم عرض فلم وثائقي عن الحرب ضد الإرهاب وداع ش بالذات من انتاج قسم الإعلام في جامعة بابل، ثم عرض مسرحي عن التطرف والإرهاب وكيف قضت عليها فتوى الجهاد الكفائي. وقد ناقش المؤتمر 115 بحثا موزعة على محاور عدة أولها المحور القانوني الذي ناقش التطرف الفكري أسبابه ومظاهره وسُبل مواجهته من الناحية القانونية والتنظيم الدستوري والقانوني لمكافحة التطرف الفكري المؤدي إلى الإرهاب ودور القانون المدني والتجاري في مواجهة التطرف والإرهاب الفكري ودور الاتفاقيات الدولية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني بمكافحة التطرف الفكري من وجهة نظر قانونية. احمد إبراهيم
