In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

برعاية رئيس جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل الياسري وإشراف عميد كلية طب الأسنان الأستاذ الدكتور سهى عبد الحسين هندي وضمن نشاطات شعبة الجودة وبالتعاون مع شعبة الإعلام ووحدة التعليم المستمر ووحدة السلامة المهنية في الكلية أقيمت ورشة بعنوان (من أجل بيئة خضراء لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة) حاضر فيها الأستاذ المساعد الدكتور زينب هادي كامل التدريسية في فرع العلوم الأساسية في الكلية. حيث سلطت الورشة الضوء على تعريف أهداف التنمية المستدامة السبعة عشر وتعريف البيئة وربطها بتلك الأهداف ولغرض تحقيق بيئة خضراء مستدامة يجب الحد من الاستهلاك الجائر للموارد الطبيعية وترشيد استهلاك المياه والطاقة والتوجه إلى الطاقة النظيفة المستدامة لتقليل أو الحد من التلوث واستهلاك الموارد الطبيعية للحيلولة دون الإضرار بالنظم البيئية في المياه والبر كذلك لتحقيق البيئة المستدامة يجب التوجه إلى إعادة التدوير لتقليل النفايات والحد من استهلاك الموارد الطبيعية ومن اهم الخطوات في تحقيق البيئة الخضراء المستدامة زراعة الأشجار والنباتات لما له الأثر الواضح في تقليل درجات الحرارة وتحسين المناخ والتنوع الحياتي بالإضافة لدورها في تحسين الصحة النفسية والعقلية ومن الجوانب الأخرى التي تناولتها الورشة التوجه إلى النقل المستدام بتقليل الاستخدام الفردي لوسائط النقل والتوجه إلى النقل العام لتقليل انبعاث عوادم النقل والتوجه إلى وسائط النقل الصديقة للبيئة كما تناولت الورشة أهمية التعاون مع المنظمات والتجمعات التي تنشط في مجالات تحسين البيئة والتوجه إلى البيئة الخضراء المستدامة صالحة للعيش السليم للأبناء والأجيال اللاحقة. احمد إبراهيم
