In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

برعاية رئيس جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل الياسري وإشراف عميد كلية طب الأسنان الأستاذ الدكتور سهى عبد الحسين هندي أقامت شعبة ضمان الجودة وبالتعاون مع وحدة التعليم المستمر ووحدة السلامة المهنية في الكلية ورشة حول (دور الإدارة البيئية في تحقيق متطلبات التنمية المستدامة) حاضر فيها المدرس نجلاء ناصر حسين والمدرس الدكتور محمد عقيل كرم. تناولت الورشة موضوع غاية في الأهمية في عصرنا الحاضر وهو دور الإدارة البيئية في تحقيق متطلبات التنمية المستدامة وتأتي أهميته من التطورات العلمية التي يشهدها العالم المعاصر وجعل التنمية المستدامة غاية أساس في المؤسسات المختلفة، حيث تطرق المحاضران إلى مفهوم التنمية المستدامة ونشاته التاريخية ومن ثم الإدارة البيئية من حيث مفهومها وأهميتها ومن ثم تم التطرق إلى العلاقة بين المصطلحين التنمية المستدامة والإدارة البيئية وصولا إلى دور الإدارة البيئية في تحقيق متطلبات التنمية حيث تم التطرق إلى هذا الموضوع بالتفصيل إذ يتم تحقيق ذلك من خلال الإفادة من التكنولوجيا النظيفة ووضع الخطط والمناهج والاستراتيجيات الواجب اتباعها لتحقيق ذلك، وختمت الورشة بمجموعة من التوصيات التي تهدف إلى توفير متطلبات الإدارة البيئية لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة. احمد إبراهيم
