In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. برعاية رئيس جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل الياسري وإشراف عميد كلية طب الأسنان الأستاذ الدكتور سهى عبد الحسين هندي وضمن منهاج وحدة شؤون المرأة أقامت الوحدة ندوة توعوية بالتعاون مع شعبة الإعلام ووحدة التعليم المستمر في الكلية بعنوان (معوقات المشاركة السياسية للمرأة وسبل النهوض بها) وذلك يوم الأحد 15/12/2024 تحقيقا لأهداف الخطة الاستراتيجية الوطنية للمرأة العراقية 2024-2025 ضمن المحور الأول التمكين السياسي حاضرت فيها المدرس المساعد أميمه لطيف سلمان عضو وحدة شؤون المرأة / كلية طب الأسنان. هدفت الندوة إلى مناقشة مجموعة من التحديات أو المعوقات التي تعرقل الالتحاق المرأة بالعمل السياسي في مجتمعنا العراقي المعاصر ومنها طبيعة النظام السياسي وثقافة المجتمع السائد التي تعمل عل التمييز ضد المرأة وكذلك الموروثات الاجتماعية والثقافية التي تنتقل من جيل إلى اخر التي أدت إلى تقسيم العمل السياسي بين الرجل والمرأة بطرق غير متكافئة. وشملت كذلك مجموعة من العوائق الأخرى منها ضعف أدوار التنظيمات النسائية وغياب عملها السياسي, ضعف دور وسائل الإعلام, وضعف الثقافة السياسية للمرأة ووعيها بذاتها وأيضا عدم الاستقرار السياسي والأمني في المجتمع العراقي لسنوات طويلة التي أثرت بشكل سلبي على حياة المرأة ونشاطاتها في الكثير من الجوانب ومنها الجانب السياسي. وتناولت الندوة أيضا اهم طرق تحسين وسبل النهوض للمشاركة السياسية للمرأة العراقية ومنها تصحيح الصورة السائدة عن المرأة في المجتمع عن طريق تقديم المناهج الدراسية والبرامج التلفزيونية وجميع وسائل الإعلام التي ترفع من قيمة ودور المرأة, دعم وترشيح المرأة في الحياة السياسية وللمناصب القيادية والسياسية, تصميم البرامج التدريبية لزيادة ثقة المرأة وقدراتها الإدارية, وضع القوانين المشجعة للمرأة العراقية على مشاركة الرجل في أداء الواجبات والحصول على الحقوق , إقامة مؤتمرات وندوات وورش عمل توضح دور المرأة وحقها في المشاركة الفاعلة، وصنع القرار في بناء الدولة و ضرورة توفير المناخ الاجتماعي والسياسي للمرأة ودعمها من قبل رؤساء الكتل والتيارات والأحزاب السياسية وإعطاءها فرص متكافئة لأبداء رائيها في الحوارات والمشاركة في صنع القرار السياسي. احمد ابراهيم
