In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

بتوجيه من عميد كلية طب الأسنان جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور سهى عبد الحسين هندي أقامت وحدة التعليم المستمر محاضرة حول البكتيريا النافعة حاضر فيها التدريسي في الكلية الأستاذ الدكتور بهاء حمدي العميدي وبالتعاون مع شعبة الاعلام في الكلية بعنوان (oral probiotic). وتضمنت المحاضرة كيفية إستخدام الأحياء المجهرية النافعة كعلاج ضد الاحياء المجهرية الضارة والمسببة للتسوس أو إلتهاب اللثة وباقي الأمراض للفم والأسنان حيث ذكر العديد من الأنواع الأحياء المجهرية المفيدة التي تستخدم لهذا الغرض وشرح الآلية التي تستخدمها هذه الأنواع البكتيرية في القضاء من إحداث التسوس بإنتاج أنواع من البكتريا وعن طريق الهندسة الوراثية بحيث تنتج أنواع بكتيرية تعيش في الفم ولا تخمر السكريات ولا تكون الصفيحة الجرثومية على سطح الأسنان أو اللثة إضافه إلى إحداث تنافس على المواد الغذائية التي تعيش عليها الأحياء المجهرية الممرضة وكذلك تمنع الإلتصاق على سطوح الأسنان واللثة وذكر العديد من المنتجات الغذائية التي تحوي هذه الأنواع من البكتريا النافعة كالألبان أو الأجبان أو الحليب والعصائر بالإضافة إلى إمكانية إستخدام الغسول لتنظيف الأسنان وكذلك معاجين تنظيف الأسنان أو الأقراص وبين إن هذه الأحياء المجهرية النافعة نجحت في معالجة تسوس الأسنان والتهابات اللثة والتخلص من الروائح الكريهة للفم وإقتراح إجراء العديد من الدراسات والأبحاث لمعرفة الأثار الجانبية لهذه الإستخدامات لهذه المنتجات وزيادة المعرفة في هذا الجانب المهم لصحة الفم والأسنان. احمد ابراهيم
