In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. The institution is made up of 21 colleges spread across three main locations in Hilla. The central university campus is in the medical colleges complex in the center of Hilla -Al-Iskan.

التقى رئيس جامعة بابل الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل ياسر إعلامي الجامعة العاملين في كليات وأقسام ومراكز الجامعة، في ورشة عمل لتطوير والارتقاء بمستوى الأداء الإعلامي الجامعي، بحضور مدير مركز الحاسبة الإلكترونية الدكتور محمود شاكر حمودي، ومدير قسم الإعلام والاتصال الحكومي السيد احمد الزاملي. واكد على مضاعفة الجهود الاعلامية لتغطية النشاطات بصورة أوسع، وتناول اللقاء عددا من المحاور التي تخص الجانب الإعلامي كالتغطيات لأنشطة وفعاليات الكليات ومراكز الجامعة، واعتماد السياقات والتعليمات التي يتحتم الالتزام بها في عملية الكتابة والنشر والتوثيق. ووجه بالتنسيق بين قسم الإعلام والاتصال الحكومي ومركز الحاسبة الإلكترونية لتطوير المواقع الخبرية ومواكبة التقدم التكنولوجي. وشهد اللقاء مناقشات لتوفير الامكانيات اللازمة لإدامة زخم العطاء الاعلامي للتعريف بأنشطة الجامعة والعمل على التغطية الخبرية للنشاطات والفعاليات في الجانب العلمي، والاداري، والثقافي وغيره فضلاً عن الندوات والمؤتمرات، والورش العلمية، واعطاء اهمية وضوء للنشاطات التي تدخل ضمن المعايير التي تجعل الجامعة في الصدارة وخاصة معايير ضمان الجودة والجانب العلمي، وبراءات الاختراع، البحوث المميزة، والحضور المميز وغيرها. وفي ختام اللقاء دعا السيد الزاملي إلى ضرورة عقد اللقاءات الدورية للوقوف على أهم الاحتياجات والاستماع إلى المقترحات من أجل استدامة وتطوير العمل الإعلامي الجامعي. محمد مكرم
