In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. برعاية رئيس جامعة بابل الاستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل الياسري واشراف عميد كلية طب الأسنان الاستاذ الدكتور سهى عبد الحسين هندي نظمت وحدة شؤون المرأة في الكلية بالتعاون مع شعبة الإعلام ووحدة التعليم المستمر حلقة نقاشية بعنوان (المرأة ايقونة التغيير المناخي والتنوع البيولوجي) وحاضر فيها م.د. اسراء ناظم حبيب وذلك اليوم الأحد الموافق 2024/10/27. تناولت دور المرأة في الصمود ضد التغيرات المناخية نظرا لأن النساء يتحملن عادة المسؤولية الأساسية عن رعاية المنزل والأشخاص الموجودين فيه فغالبا ما تكون النساء أول المتدخلين في حالات الكوارث حيث ينقذن الأطفال وكبار السن والأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة وغيرهم من أفراد المجتمع ويتولين قيادة التعافي بعد الكارثة وبالإضافة الى ذلك نجد أن العديد من النساء مشرفات على البيئة اذ تعد المرأة مسؤولة عن نصف إنتاج الغذاء في العالم. وفي البلدان النامية تنتج ما يصل إلى 80 ? من الغذاء. لقد تعلمت النساء كالمزارعات كيفية التعامل مع تغير المناخ والتكيف معه على سبيل المثال من خلال ممارسة الزراعة المستدامة في انسجام مع الطبيعة أو التحول إلى البذور المقاومة للجفاف أو استخدام تقنيات منخفضة التأثير أو إدارة التربة العضوية . فللنساء عوامل تغييرات قادت النساء والفتيات - بما في ذلك الطالبات والأمهات ونساء الشعوب الأصلية والمشاهير - لذلك لقد حان الوقت للاستثمار في المرأة باعتبارها قوة كبيرة للتغيير وتقود الطريق إلى مستقبل أكثر استدامة. احمد ابراهيم
