In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

أقامت وحدة التعليم المستمر في كلية طب الأسنان جامعة بابل وبتوجيه من عميد الكلية الاستاذ الدكتور أمير حمدي العميدي وبالتعاون مع شعبة الاعلام ورشة عمل حول (تطبيقات جزيئات الفضة النانوية في مجالات طب الاسنان) (Nanosliver application in dentistry)، وحاضر فيها الدكتورة نبراس نصر الله الدباغ وقد حضر الورشة عميد الكلية وعدد من تدريسيي وموظفي الكلية. اشارت الدراسة الى تطبيقات الجزيئات النانوية (الفضة اوكسيد الزنك او ثنائي اوكسيد التيتانيوم) في مجالات واسعة في طب الاسنان (حشوات الاسنان ؛ زراعة الاسنان ؛تقويم الاسنان) . وهذه الجزيئات لها صفات مهمة كعوامل مضادة للجراثيم وهذا يعتمد على حجم جزيئات النانو والتركيز وشكل جزيئة النانو. ان اضافة عوامل مضادة للجراثيم لمادة لصق تقويم الاسنان قد تكون الحل الحكيم لمنع تكوين البقع البيضاء وهي بداية الافة التسوسية لبكتيريا S. mutans . بالإضافة الى دور هذه الجزيئات النانوية بالتأثير المضاد لبكتيريا P.gingivalis وبكتيريا E. faecalis . تم اختبار الخصائص المضادة للبكتيريا عن طريق تحديد اعداد المستعمرات القابلة للحياة ( CFU ) بالإضافة الى دراسة التعبير الجيني للعزلات المعاملة بجزيئات النانو واخيرا فحص تأثير سمية cytotoxicity جزيئات النانو للعزلات المعاملة. احمد ابراهيم
