In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

The University of Babylon is one of the largest universities in Iraq. It is situated on the banks of the Euphrates River in the province of Babil in central Iraq. The institution is made up of 21 colleges spread across three main locations in Hilla. The central university campus is in the medical colleges complex in the center of Hilla -Al-Iskan.

اليونسكو تهنئ وزير التعليم الدكتور نعيم العبودي وتعرب عن شكرها على قراره باعتماد (Bologna Process) وتصفه بالعامل المهم في تعزيز جودة التعليم في العراق أعربت منظمة اليونسكو عن شكرها وتهنئتها لوزير التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي الدكتور نعيم العبودي على قراره باعتماد نظام بولونيا (Bologna Process) في الجامعات التقنية. ووصفت اليونسكو في نص بيانها المنشور على منصتها الرسمية: (https://web.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0MktXnBKrsvony6QpvjKXMrCKUpMKCd2sm7pPUEJ45Pk1Ji6dHFgKRmhwSLfdUnTnl&id=1000987366580845&mibextid=Nif5oz&_rdc=1&_rdr) قرار وزير التعليم بالعامل المهم في إعادة بناء وتعزيز جودة التعليم العالي في العراق. وسجلت المنظمة تقديرها للالتزام العالي الذي أبدته وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي ورؤساء الجامعات التقنية في اعتماد النظام التعليمي الجديد واستحداث برامج أكاديمية على مستوى البكالوريوس ضمن هذا الإطار التعليمي مشيرة الى تطلعها الى الإمام للعمل مع وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي وتنفيذ المشروع في الجامعات العراقية الأخرى. وجاء في نص بيانها الرسمي: UNESCO congratulates the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and thanks H.E. Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi for the approval for the Technical Universities to adopt the Bologna Process. H.E. Minister’s decision to approve the implementation of Bologna Process and accompanying tools is an important in rebuilding and strengthening the quality of Iraq’s higher education. It has been a great pleasure for UNESCO to cooperate with the MoHESR on the EU funded TVET 2 project and appreciate the commitment and application of the Advisors and Officials at the MoHESR and the Presidents of the Technical Universities and their teams to produce new Bachelor s degree programmes in ICT, Hospitality and tourism and in Construction.
